January 2021 - The Company of Books - by Finnabair

Hi, my Dear Friends!

Are you ready for the new portion of the inspiration? This topic of the month - Books - is something which is especially close to my heart...

I've loved books since I remember, first asking my parents to read me stories (sometimes over and over again, the same one until I memorized it and could say every word) and then, I loved them even more, when I was able to read them myself. I was "swallowing them" like there was no tomorrow! 

Thanks to the books I was never bored, there was always a way to get into another place, another time, and dream, imagine, escape reality. I loved fairy tales, fantasy, and SF, historical novels, detective stories - just name it! They were fueling my imagination and helping me find myself in the world.

My love for books never left me - I still absolutely love the time when I can dive into the pages and forget about everything, even if it is only for a short time! I can tell you one secret: for some time in my life, I even considered writing novels and short stories myself... but I really never had the courage to start! I was writing book reviews and short columns in one of the magazines, but this was really it.

The fact I never started writing doesn't mean I don't have the stories to tell though! There are many of them and I can create more and more - but in an artistic, visual way! 

Collages, journal pages, and altered art are my fairy-tales, my gateway to other, fantastic worlds, and my way to communicate with others, trying to invite them into a small part of my private world... 

Do you know what is even better? 

Now I can use books not as my inspiration but as my substrates in art as well! Including pages into my collage or creating directly in the book is another kind of pleasure - but, still, it is a way to live my life with a book in my hands.
