MAY 2019 - Beauty in simplicity - BY TANYALEE KAHLER

Hi there Art Daily adventurers. Welcome back to another inspiration post for the month of May.

This month’s colour is Mint, and I have prepared a spread in a handmade art journal using just that colour.

The mood board below might help you kickstart your art journal pages this month too.

This month I was very short on time, and I haven’t been able to get into my studio for very long so I really had to keep this simple – which suits the theme perfectly don’t you think? I kept my supplies limited to a few items plus collage ephemera so you can see how you can create a detailed page quite simply.

As always, I have used gouache as my main medium, added some water soluble crayons and illustrated with ink. I love how the black and white photo was etched out simply by outlining it with gouache.

Here is the list of items I used in this spread:

Handmade journal
Acryla gouache (pale mint)
Neocolor II pastels (Payne’s grey)
Gesso
Gel medium
Collage ephemera including magazine pages and tissue paper
White gel pen
Black gel pen
Black India ink

Do you limit supplies, or give yourself a time limit? Or do you just create in intervals and let your artwork develop? All are great strategies, and I’d love to see how you keep your art practice simple.

As always we are waiting for you here, on the blog, on Instagram and Facebook with more of inspirational ideas... give yourself permission to play and join us!
