February 2020 - Haiga - Visual Poetry
Hello friends,
Our February theme is Haiga - Visual Poetry
In Japanese tradition, Haiga are typically painted by haiku poets, and often accompanied by a haiku poem. A typical haiku is a three-line observation about a fleeting moment often involving nature.
Little spider,
will you outlive
me?
— Cor van den Heuvel, Haiku Anthology 3rd ed., 1999
meteor shower...
a gentle wave
wets our sandals
— Michael Dylan Welch, HSA Newsletter XV:4, Autumn 2000
Like the poetic form it accompanied, haiga was based on simple, yet often profound, observations of the everyday world. Our moodboard is a perfect visual example, of what we mean.
