June 2021 - Rusty canvas - Maria Lillepruun

Dear friends

All (or nearly all) mixed artists love rust, but the majority of humankind doesn´t share the same emotion :) Most of the people tend to throw away the thing is it gets rusty, or at least clean the rust off. I think it is because rust is the indicator of decay, a sign of age and sickness. This is hard to love such things. One needs to be somewhat of a philosopher to see the beauty in deterioration.

I created a rusty mixed media canvas, picturing my love for old rusty things. As for abandoned elements, I used the real metal bottles caps found somewhere on a street. They did not need any retouch because they had already been covered in the most beautiful, marvellous rust by the moment I found them.
