November 2020 - Teal turtle - by Aleksandra Mihelic

It's getting cold here in Slovenia, winter is approaching and I hope we will have some snow this year. I don't love cold weather but with snow everything is better and so magical. But with this month's Art daily Mood board I returned to summer time. It captured me with its teal blue colors and with the breathtaking summertime images. I could almost feel the warmth of the sun on my skin and the joy of swimming in crystal blue water. 

But my attention was drawn to the gorgeous turtles swimming with a lady. And I immediately knew what I wanted to make. I altered an mdf base with a turtle silhouette.

I first covered it with white gesso and dried it. After that I prepared some empty and dried egg shells and using Finnabair paper texture paste I covered my turtle with them, creating a scaly texture on my turtle. I colored it with gorgeous Teal-Blue Opal magic paint, which has an amazing two-tone iridescent effect and when dry I dry-brushed it with a coat of white gesso to tone it down a bit. 

I added some embellishments and a quote which connects to this month's quote from Mood board - "All of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney

I strongly believe it is so. But sometimes we stand in our own way with our fears and doubts. So I think it is important to also always be true to yourself.
